    TIPS FOR ORGANIZING A WAREHOUSE
A dirty and disorganized warehouse is a problem for everyone. Aside from bothering the tidiest members of your crew, it can also lead to a less productive and unsafe space for everyone. It takes strong leadership and implementation to maintain a clean facility. Luckily, there are plenty of things you can do to help keep things in order. Tips For Keeping Your Warehouse Clean First, take inventory of clean supplies available and what needs to be restocked. You should always have a stock of mops, buckets, oil and fluid clean-u kits, trash bins and bags, sweeper/scrubbers or brooms and more. Make these supplies easily accessible to employees to make the process as easy as possible. Double up on your inventory of trashcans to reduce any debris build-up due to lack of reciprocals. Have a pow-wow with your employees and go over each individual`s responsibilities. You can assign work areas to certain groups of employees to encourage accountability and pride in the workplace. Go over the importance of warehouse cleanliness and make clear action items for each area of the facility. This would also be a good time to create goals and schedules to keep everything on track. Locate outdated stock and replace it and/or remove it. That busted forklift that`s collecting dust is not only a hazard but also clutters your space. Shop for new and used forklifts at 123Forklift. You can compare prices in minutes and get the best price on exactly what you`re looking for. An organized warehouse is an efficient warehouse. There are many methods of organization that may be able to benefit your business, and every good manager should evaluate potential improvements regularly. Evaluate your use or potential for pallet racking systems. This can be helpful with material storage, savings space, and safety. Shop pallet jacks. Have a safety education plan in a

4 WAYS TO PREVENT WAREHOUSE ACCIDENTS
An important part of forklift safety is being able to understand how accidents can happen in the warehouse and how to prevent them. More than 50,000 warehouse workers are injured in forklift related accidents every year in the United States alone. The Occupational Safety & Health Administration estimates that 70% of these accidents are preventable. Here are four ways to avoid accidents or injuries in your warehouse this year: Train Your Employees. The smartest thing a business owner can invest in is his/her employees. Consider annual training courses for your warehouse staff to keep them sharp and knowledgable about the tools and machines they are using. When you take the time to properly train your employees, they will be reminded of the importance of workplace safety. Drive safe. A large portion of forklift accidents happen when operators are driving irresponsibly. Make sure that your forklift operators are mindful of pedestrians and are driving at safe speeds in your warehouse. You should also consider screening your employees for any visual impairments they may have to ensure they are wearing corrective eye-ware while operating company machinery. Your drivers need to remember that if they are driving irresponsibly they are putting not only themselves at risk, but others as well. Make sure that your forklifts are inspected and maintained. Daily check-ins with your forklifts will help increase their lifespan and ensure that any potential issues are caught before they turn into serious problems. Here are some things to look for when inspecting your forklifts: Grease or any flammable material Loose fuel connections Low fluid levels Frayed or exposed wires Low tire pressure Cracked forks Only carry loads your lif

AUTOMATED FORKLIFTS: HELPFUL OR HARMFUL TO TODAY`S ECONOMY?
It should come as no surprise that automation improves efficiency and reduces operation costs in factories and distribution centers. However, the question at the heart of the discussion is whether the machines are helpful or harmful to the economy. Many companies have already implemented automated guided vehicles (AGVs) to move pallets and cases-these machines are not new-however, now there is a rise in the use of automated (sometimes called [driverless") models of forklifts and pallet trucks. The increase in productivity is a big lure to moving to an automated system. Mundane activities such as retrieving empty pallets and moving full pallets to secure the product for docking frees up time for workers to pick products to package; some estimates says that time to pick product raises to as much as 80 percent. In addition, when using semi-automated trucks, operators no longer have to spend time searching for pick and putaway locations as their product is already in front of them, at the location it needs to be. The use of an automated forklift does not necessarily lead to the loss of human jobs. The function of some automated lift trucks is to move alongside workers picking product in the aisles transport these products. This action can occur automatically or the used forklift may take direction from a worker. Likewise, once the lift truck receives orders (either automatically or manually from a worker) the truck either places the full pallet on a conveyor (automatically) or workers perform this task. In this situation, the company making use of an automated forklift improves their efficiency and reduces their operation costs, but also keeps some of their workforce employed. Even though the number of workers is less, due to the implementation of an automated system, there is still a need for human workers in this type of system. Both types of systems (those with so

[REPRINT]Is it more cost-effective to buy forklifts and or rent forklifts?
Is it more cost-effective to buy forklifts and or rent forklifts? The use of forklifts to carry goods is now more common and saves time and effort. The use of forklifts has also become more widespread with the development of the domestic economy. In such a market with a promising future, various brands of forklifts are entering more fields over time. Different types of forklift trucks use different types of forklift trucks for different occasions. However, is it better to buy a new forklift now? Or is it more cost-effective to go to a rental company? Whether buying a forklift or leasing a rental company, it needs to be measured in terms of the current use environment and its uses. When considering whether to lease or purchase, it is necessary to think about the frequency of use of the vehicle and the price. If the frequency of using a forklift is relatively low, but when the performance requirements for using the forklift are relatively high, the best option is to use the form of renting, because the forklifts with higher operating performance requirements are generally required for the comparison of operating techniques. [REPRINT]Problems to be noticed during the driving of electric forklifts
Some operators have blamed the quality of the vehicle after an accident occurred in driving the electric forklift. In fact, they will be discovered after careful observation. Most of the accidents that occurred in electric forklifts were caused by improper operation of drivers. Because the size of the electric forklift will be relatively small, some drivers will not pay much attention to some details during the operation, which will lead to accidents. What problems should be paid attention to when driving electric forklifts? When driving an electric forklift to load any cargo, it is necessary to control the load center of the cargo. The distance from the center of the load is the center point of the electric forklift when the goods are forked. In simple terms, it refers to the center of the length of the cargo. point. For example, if the electric forklift needs to be loaded with a length of one meter eight meters, then the load center of the cargo is at a position of nine hundred millimeters. If the length of the cargo is three meters, then the center point of the load is at one-fifth. If the fork that barely uses the one-meter-two can be used, it will be prone to a rollover accident. It is also a kind of comparison. Adventurous approach. When the electric forklift carries goods on the drive course, raising the fork too high will increase the overall height of the forklift, directly affecting the stability of the electric forkl

INCREASE FORKLIFT SAFETY WITH THESE 5 TIPS
Along with the obvious fun and healthy competition, events like the forklift rodeos are a key demonstration of just how difficult it is to properly operate material handling equipment under challenging circumstances. Forklift safety must stay at the forefront of operators` minds. This equipment is incredibly dangerous. It`s unfortunate how often we have to read about forklift accidents in the news, including a recent incident involving a running back for the University of Michigan, Drake Johnson, being run over while stretching on the floor of his training facility. Without safe forklift operation, accidents run rampant. Implementing strict forklift safety rules will prevent these accidents from happening. The safety risk for everyday warehouse workers is very real. It`s not just the equipment operator`s responsibility to ensure forklift safety. Everyone on the warehouse floor plays a critical role. If you`re a warehouse or operations manager, here are some standard forklift safety tips you can implement to help reduce risk. 1. Formal Instruction Whether the facility is huge or a mom-and-pop operation, OSHA forklift safety rules require that all forklift operators receive formal instruction and training on OSHA forklift safety rules in the form of videos, lectures, written materials, and more. Operators must be trained on: Vehicle capacity and stability Operating instructions Vehicle inspection and maintenance requirements Load manipulation, stacking, and unstacking Pedestrian traffic in areas where the vehicle will be operated Operating in narrow aisles and restricted places The requirements of OSHA forklift safety rules 2. Practical Training Instead of just hitting the books, your driver

5 WAYS TO REDUCE WAREHOUSE COSTS
There may be no such thing as a quick fix when it comes to warehouse optimization, but there are some steps management can take today to make a big difference in the long run. Consider these 5 ways to reduce costs in your warehouse operations by implementing new processes or evaluating possible renovations. 1. Reduce error rates. Save money and improve the overall quality of the operation by reducing error rates. Identify and post errors by type so workers are aware of the kinds of problem that are made most frequently. You can create some extra incentive for workers to reduce mistakes by posting names of employees with the least amount of errors each week or month. Highlight good performances as well as areas of improvement to maintain high moral. 2. Be clear with your employees. Your labor force is one of the largest cost factors in your operation, so it deserves a significant amount of your attention. It`s critical to ensure that your employees know exactly what is expected of them and how well they are meeting those expectations. It`s the job of warehouse management to be as clear as possible and make sure that what an individual employee perceives as important is in line with corporate goals and objectives. Take this step today by taking a look at how you`re currently communicating objectives with your employees. Establish your levels of cost and performance relating to your key performance indicators. Then identify your workers expectations relating to these indicators. After establishing these expectations, you can measure performance and meet with your employees at designated times throughout the year to talk the results. This reporting process can be an ongoing way in which you boost productivity and in results, save overall costs. 3. Get multiple quotes on material handling equipment. Shopping around

[REPRINT]How to prevent forklifts from tipping
Because of the special requirements of electric forklift working environment, so when it comes to electric forklifts structure, we need to have a smaller turning radius requirements. Electric forklifts have a short body and a small wheelbase. These advantages allow electric forklifts to be very flexible when they are operating. Even if the electric forklift looks relatively small, when driving the electric forklift, it still requires the driver to pay attention to some safety matters, to avoid the occurrence of personal injury such as rollover, and damage to the goods. 1. Although the electric forklift looks relatively small and easy to operate, it must be fastened when driving an electric forklift. 2. When the electric forklift is lifting the goods, it must be avoided that the gantry forward leans. It needs to be well prevented until the electric forklift will turn over. 3. When the electric forklift is carrying out cargo loading, the lateral center of gravity must not be shifted seriously, otherwise the electric forklift will roll over. 4. When the electric forklift is driven on a road surface with a relatively steep slope of the road, that is, when the electric forklift is not at a le

Forklift battery safe use and maintenance
The forklift's tram is an important part of the forklift's body. So how to correctly use the forklift's battery and maintenance is popularized for everyone today. First, daily inspection is essential 1. The liquid level of the battery: When the liquid level is lower than the rated liquid level, the service life of the battery will be shortened, but if the electrolyte is too small, the battery will be damaged due to heat generation. Therefore, it must be noted whether the electrolyte is sufficient. 2. Terminals, wires, and covers of the battery: It must be checked frequently that the connection between the junction of the battery terminal and the wire is oxidized and the corrosion is checked. At the same time, check whether the cover is deformed and there is no heating. 3, Appearance: Dirty battery surface will cause leakage, should make the battery surface clean and dry at any time. Second, maintenance 1. Add water: Add distilled water according to the specified liquid level. Do not add too much distilled water in order to prolong the interval between water additions. Adding too much electrolyte will overflow the electrolyte. 2. Charging: The battery will generate gas during the charging process. Keep the charging place well-ventilated and there is no open flame around. At the same time, the oxygen and acid gases generated during the charging process will affect the surrounding area. Unplugg

How Often Should Operators Inspect Their Forklift
According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), approximately 100,000 industrial injuries are caused by forklifts each year. A third of these injuries are considered severe, resulting in employees` inability to work. Keeping your forklift in good working order is essential to prevent expensive repairs. It is necessary to implement and adhere to OSHA rules and industry best practices to operate a forklift safely. Forklift operators and employers often ask us how often they should inspect the forklifts they use. The pre-operational check aids the operators in detecting problems in the equipment to keep the truck`s operational capabilities at their best. Let`s now discuss how often a forklift operator should conduct an inspection. How Often Does a Forklift Have to Be Inspected? Heavy machinery requires professionalism and attention. Every operator must adhere to the OSHA federal mandates, even though each company has its own set of rules and expectations. We are often asked about forklift inspections and the frequency with which they should be done. OSHA makes it quite clear that no matter how a facility`s shifts are carried out, an inspection is always required. Facilities that are open 24/7 must be inspected before each shift begins. Businesses that operate within a typical business day need to have a daily or shift-by-shift inspection. OSHA requires that forklifts be inspected at least once daily to ensure safe operating conditions. Forklifts that are used continuously must be inspected before and after every shift.

Driverless forklifts are the solution to warehouse recruitment issues
A growing number of European warehouse and distribution centre operators see driverless forklift truck technology as the optimum solution to the staff recruitment and employment cost challenges they are facing, says Jason Zhang, VisionNav Robotics` Head of Sales – Europe Automated reality Across the Eurozone a shrinking labour pool is hitting the logistics sector hard. And with HGV drivers, warehouse order pickers and forklift operators all in short supply, supply chain disruption has become a serious issue for many organisations. While Covid and the economic and social upheaval that has followed in its wake is partly responsible for the current workforce crisis. Other factors – including a falling population of `prime age` workers – suggest that the problem isn`t simply a `bump in the road` but something with which the logistics industry will have to learn to contend in the long term. In Germany – Europe`s largest economy – the ageing population combined with low birth rates recently prompted the Federal Labor Agency to warn that the country must attract at least 400,000 skilled immigrants every year. [The fact is Germany is running out of workers," said Federal Labor Agency Chairman Detlef Scheele. [From nurses to logistics personnel there will be a shortage of workers everywhere." Even in countries with high levels of unemployment such as Spain – where the unemployment rate is currently hovering at around 14 per cent – warehouse staff and forklift operators are in high demand due to the low supply of qualified personnel to do the jobs. And in the UK 13 per cent of respondents to a recent survey undertaken by the leading trade association, Logistics UK, reported severe warehouse staff shortages, with a substantial decline in the availability of forklift dri

Long-term forecast of forklift market in 2028 raised by 40%
A new report by business analysts Interact Analysis suggests that the global market for forklifts is considerably greater going forward than was first thought. Prior to 2019 the global forklift market had been underperforming for a significant period. Things got worse in early 2019 as fears of a recession caused companies to hold back planned investments in new materials handling equipment. By Q4 2019, an uptick in orders was visible, but then the pandemic hit and Q1 2020 saw a drop in orders of nearly 70% year-on-year. However, as the pandemic drove e-commerce to hitherto unseen levels, there was a sharp rebound in order-intake, especially in China. Like many industries forklift manufacturers then suffered from the problem of being unable to ship large numbers of orders due to supply chain blockages. Above: as the pandemic drove e-commerce, there was a sharp rise in forklift orders High growth first half of 2021 The gap between orders and shipments has widened during 2021 owing to the shortage of raw materials (notably steel) and rapid increases in logistics pricing, especially in shipping, which have seen the cost of a single container rising by as much as 500%. On top of that, labor shortages and energy supply problems continue to hold back production. As the graph above shows, 2021 shipment growth is about half that of order growth. Growth in order intake is being

On-going global supply chain issues prompt upsurge in used forklift demand as buyers opt for `blended fleets`
With ongoing global supply chain issues leading to longer lead times for all types of new materials handling equipment, Toyota Material Handling UK reports that demand for its pre-owned forklifts is at an all-time high as truck users look to second- or third-life machines to support their fleets. [With refurbished models available for immediate delivery, we are seeing a significant increase in the number of companies that opt for `blended` fleets – a mix of new and used machines," says Stuart Reilly TMHUK Rental & Used Director. He continues: [For example, a customer with a requirement for 30 counterbalance trucks may take delivery of 25 new forklifts and, rather than waiting for the remaining five new trucks to be built and delivered, will prefer to obtain five used models straightaway on a short-term rental agreement." The strong demand for used equipment comes at a time when the number of second-life units available to rent or buy is down on previous years across the UK market. Stuart Reilly explains: [Most facilities where forklifts operate were considerably less active than normal for a period of 18 months or so at the height of the Covid pandemic crisis. As a result, many truck fleets that are now coming to the end of their primary term contract hire period have not been worked
